Emerging Leader Programme
Your chance to shine!
Being a young or emerging leader can be challenging. You may have little or no formal authority. You may feel others don’t listen or respect your ideas. You may have a strong sense of ‘what could be’ and may not know where to begin. This programme has been developed for you.
Just doing it.
The focus is on practicing leadership not just talking about it.
Yes there will be some theory but mostly it’s about ‘doing’ leadership and sharing personal experiences.
While there is a programme outline, it is expected that participants will identify other opportunities to support their leadership development. These can be incorporated into the programme.
Leadership Themes
- Authentic Leadership
Leading from the heart - and the head.
Understanding and managing myself. - Getting connected
Building effective, professional relationships and networks. - Working in teams
Leading collective action. Mobilising others and managing team dynamics. - Moving forward
Setting the agenda, building a shared vision.
The ultimate leadership challenge

This is a nine month leadership development programme. It begins in February 2011 with a fantastic two day workshop.
This will kick start the programme and provide you with a wonderful opportunity not only to begin understanding your own leadership style and direction but also to get to know a great group of other young leaders.
There will be a further three,
two-day workshops held in Wellington. The workshops will be a mixture of high energy activity and reflection and sharing of personal leadership experiences.
Built around you!
Each participant will undertake at least one leadership project of their choice. The project will focus on a particular need or opportunity within your community.
Throughout the programme there will be opportunities to experience leadership in different environments outside of the familiar. We will invite leaders to speak at workshops and at other times. These will include people such as Martin Snedden, CEO Rugby World Cup.
Each participant will have an experienced personal coach. The coach will maintain contact with you through- out the programme and meet with you from time to time.
Are you up for it?
This programme is for motivated young and emerging leaders who have a strong desire to make a difference and would like to enhance their leadership skills and effectiveness.
It is likely that you are aged between 18 and 30 and have already demonstrated leadership of people and/or change within your community. This may not have been in a formal way but will have involved encouraging and working with others to achieve a goal.
